Food Freedom Fund
We refuse to let them starve our people into cages.
The government shutdown may be over, but the impact is far from it.
As states restart food assistance, they are also rolling out new restrictions and cuts that will make it harder for many of our mamas and caregivers to keep their benefits, removing them from SNAP immediately.
To continue receiving benefits, they must now show proof of working at least 80 hours a month, be in school, or participate in a training or workforce program.
Our Black mamas and caregivers face unemployment rates seven times higher than the national average. And many face barriers beyond their control: lack of transportation, caregiving responsibilities, harsh parole conditions, low levels of education, and houselessness, to name a few. As primary breadwinners, our Black mamas and caregivers already shoulder the weight of keeping their families fed and housed.
Any disruption to SNAP isn’t just an inconvenience; it's a direct attack on our ability to survive.
These policy shifts create even more barriers for people who are already stretched thin.
